The American Horse Defense Fund's (AHDF) mission is to facilitate the protection, conservation,
and humane treatment of members of all Equine species. AHDF works to address inhumane treatment of horses,

Alternatives to Auction and Slaughter
In 2004, the American Horse Defense Fund released a book destined to
change the equine world, Alternatives to Slaughter and Auction. The
book was well received and was highlighted on the floor of the House
during votes concerning the Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, HR 503, in
2006. While the book was groundbreaking and attempted to cover every
option to prevent horse slaughter and owners from sending their horses
to auction, it became outdated in the last few years. The staff of AHDF
announce the updated version of Alternatives to Slaughter will be
available for download from this site. The book's new format and
layout make it even easier for horse owners to use and store. The
new book available NOW .
