American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act
Dear Caring Person:
Your immediate action is needed to help secure the first impending halt to the slaughter of horses in the United States for human consumption abroad. With the help of people like you, we persuaded the House of Representatives to pass HR 503 that would prevent the transportation, trading, selling or donating horses for the purpose of horse slaughter in the United States and prohibit their transport across the border to Canada or Mexico for the purpose of slaughter. The issue is currently being considered by the Senate in the form of SB 1915 and if passed by the Senate and signed by the President it would end horse slaughter in the US.
Congress to pass an amendment to the 2006 Agriculture Appropriations Bill that prohibits your tax dollars from being used to fund the federally mandated inspection of horses to be slaughtered for human consumption, thereby halting their slaughter. The amendment was overwhelmingly approved in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, and it was made official on Nov. 10, 2005 when the President signed the 2006 Agriculture Appropriations Bill into law. However, the language was removed from the 2012 Appropriations bill allowing for the resumption of horse slaughter to resume once again in the United States.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Please contact the two Senators from your state and ask that they cosponsor and support SB 1176 and contact your Representative and ask him/her to cosponsor and vote FOR HR 2966.
Sincerely,
Shelley Sawhook
